Granulomatous Lung Diseases

Granulomatous lung diseases encompass a number of different diseases with varied etiology or cause, but common lung pathology. However, in all of these diseases a biopsy of the lung reveals the classic cluster of white cells known as a granuloma. Granulomatous lung diseases may result from exposure to infectious organisms, such as mycobacteria in the case of tuberculosis and atypical mycobacterial disease or fungi in histoplasmosis and coccidiomycosis. Known occupational and environmental exposures may result in the granulomatous lung diseases chronic beryllium disease and hypersensitivity pneumonitis. Unknown agents or exposures result in the granulomatous disease sarcoidosis.

National Jewish Health has active Clinical and Research Programs in Granulomatous Lung Diseases.
