Latest Revision of the Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma
In July 2007, a panel of asthma experts convened by the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP) completed the first comprehensive revision in a decade of clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and management of asthma. The expert panel consisted of a number of health specialists from across the country, including two National Jewish physicians - Harold S. Nelson, MD and Stanley J.Szefler, MD Another National Jewish physician, E. Rand Sutherland, MD, served as a consultant and reviewed an early draft of the report.
The guidelines include new recommendations on patient education, medications, assessment and monitoring, and advice for controlling environmental factors that can cause asthma symptoms.

The NAEPP was established in March 1989 to reduce asthma-related illness and death and to enhance the quality of life of people with asthma. NAEPP is convened under the auspices of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and coordinates federal asthma-related activities, as designated through the Children's Health Act of 2000.
